VOCAL & TIMING PATTERNS: Linking and Rhythm

Rhythm is also affected by the linking together of words in connected speech. This linking causes the ending of one word to sound as though it begins the next word.

Reduced forms give flow and rhythm to speech and allow easier expression of complete thoughts. Even the most articulate speakers of Standard-American English use reductions.
